This research intends to identify the performance level of flood control and to present the overall illustration about the effectiveness flood control system that has been applied in the Semarang Barat region. The methodology consists of assessing by using three approaches that are infrastructure, function, and physics of river. However, the performance assessment of flood control is carried out based on the Circular Letter of Indonesian Water Resources Directorate General. The category of assessment is scoring from 1 until 5 based on the existing condition. The results show that the assessment result at physical aspect is 3.0 with the moderate caetegory; at funtional aspect is 3.4 with good category; and at infrastructure aspect is 2.09 with moderate-bad category. The system performance value is 2.9 (moderate category), it means that the flood control system in Semarang Barat generally has not been optimal, and vulnerable to annual flooding as well as inundation due to the rob. This assessment is hoped can become as the base in technical decision making and policy making in flood control in pront to flooding urban area. © 2026 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
