This study uncovers the experimental results of replacing natural coarse aggregate with onyx waste in concrete. The research aims to evaluate the shrinkage behavior of concrete with onyx waste aggregate to that of normal concrete. Concrete shrinkage behavior was investigated to assess the effect of environmental conditions with different relative humidity (RH) levels. Drying shrinkage was reviewed based on ASTM C157 for 90 days with two conditions, soaking in lime water (100% RH) and storing in a room with an average of temperature 26.4 and average relative humidity is 67.3%. The results showed that at 100% RH the concrete was swelling, while at RH 67.3% the onyx waste concrete shrank by 3.704% more than the normal concrete. This verifies that a high humidity environment will reduce shrinkage. The use of onyx waste as a substitute for coarse aggregate increases the shrinkage effect although it is not significant when compared to concrete with natural aggregates. As a result, it can be concluded that onyx waste performs well as coarse aggregate in structural concrete. © 2024 Author(s).
