This study addresses the challenges associated with using combined solar cells as both an energy generator and a dryer, particularly for drying Kupang (Mytilus Edulis) by Indonesian fishermen. Frequent interruptions in sunlight caused by clouds in coastal and tropical regions create difficulties in maintaining consistent drying. In order to overcome this, a smart dryer powered by a photovoltaic (PV) system has been developed. The PV system generates electricity to operate a fan and heater, while the PV surface is covered with glass in order to regulate temperature and improve efficiency. During operation, the fan circulates heated air over the Kupang, ensuring drying continues even after sunset. A total of 2,000 grams of Kupang have been tested, divided equally between direct solar drying and the smart dryer. The drying process, conducted from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, has resulted in a 50% reduction in moisture content with the solar dryer, compared to a 60% reduction using the smart dryer. These results demonstrate that the PV-based smart dryer is a more effective solution for coastal communities. © 2025 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.
