Abstract

The Manikin Dam, constructed with an asphalt core, offers several advantages, including being watertight, homogeneous, flexible, and suitable for earthquake-prone areas. This study aims to assess the stability of the Manikin Dam under operating basis earthquake loads (OBE) at various depth ratios of the dam body, which has yielded significant findings. The analysis results indicate that the Manikin Dam with the asphalt core design meets the minimum safety factor (SFmin = 1.2) under several conditions: at the end of construction, at the flood water level (FWL), at the normal water level (NWL), and the low water level (LWL). This means that the Manikin Dam can resist operating based on earthquake loads (OBE), a crucial finding with practical implications for dam construction in earthquake-prone areas, providing valuable insights for future engineering projects. © 2025 IAHR – International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research.
