Abstract

The main objective of this Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is to explore the integration of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) with MIMO systems. It covers beamforming optimization, strategies for energy efficiency, and methods to enhance system capacity. The review provides an in-depth look into recent developments in RIS-based MIMO systems, discussing theoretical models, optimization techniques, and practical implementation issues. Special attention is given to hybrid beamforming, power allocation, and phase-shift optimization, emphasizing RIS's crucial role in improving MIMO performance for both 5G and 6G networks. Research findings indicate that RIS has the potential to significantly increase channel capacity, lower latency, and enable more energy-efficient communications, positioning it as a groundbreaking technology for future wireless networks. The increasing need for MIMO capabilities, driven by rising data demands and next-generation technologies, highlights the importance of RIS in boosting spectrum efficiency, reducing interference, and enhancing data transmission. © 2025 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.
