Abstract

Graphite is a cheap material and abundant in nature so much parties competing in synthesis graphene oxide from graphite. This caused in the superiority of graphene, which is applicable to modern technologies. Adsorptive technologies are crucial to achieving global carbon neutral and carbon negative targets. Membrane separation is more energy efficient than conventional adsorption techniques. Graphene oxide (GO), which has several advantages in terms of structure, chemistry, and surface area, is obtained from the basal angle and surface of a single layer of graphite. It contains oxidizing hydroxyl (C–OH), carbonyl (C–O), carboxylic acid (COOH), and epoxy (C–O–C) groups. One type of membrane that is anticipated to offer a solution for CO2 gas separation is graphene oxide (GO) membrane. For fine molecular separations for gas separation, the repulsive forces between carboxyl groups nanosheets in GO membranes usually lead to an unnecessarily high interlayer distance and poor performance. The graphene oxide strategy with a impregnation of mangosteen peel extract, serves as an interface moderator to improve functional groups. The impregnation strategy also obtains a sheet/layer bond through π stacking and forms a monolithic structure and environmentally friendly. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
