Abstract

Mystus singaringan (Bleeker, 1846), a species of freshwater bagrid catfish, is known to inhabit river systems across Southeast Asia. However, its presence on Bangka Island, Indonesia, has not been previously documented. This study reports the first confirmed record of M. singaringan from Bangka Island, expanding its known geographical range. Specimens were collected from a freshwater river using cast nets and identified based on morphological characteristics and meristic counts. Habitat features, including water parameters such as pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen, were documented. This finding contributes to the understanding of freshwater fish diversity in Bangka Island and underscores the importance of further ichthyological surveys in the region. Conservation measures should be considered to ensure the sustainability of freshwater ecosystems, given increasing anthropogenic pressures. © 2025, Egyptian Society for the Development of Fisheries and Human Health.
