The potential of black soybean (Glycine max l.merr.) extract gel in the healing process of gingivitis in vivo

Abstract

Objective: Determine the effectiveness of the application of black soybean extract gel in the rat model of gingivitis by using parameters of the number of neutrophils and macrophages, as well as TGF-β expression Material and Method: The gingivitis disease model was developed using Wistar rats infected with Porphyromonas gingivalis. Forty-eight Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) were randomly divided into six groups; each group was group N (normal condition), group K-(without treatment), group K+ (given chlorhexidine 0.2%), group P1 (given black soybean extract gel 40%), group P2 (given black soybean extract gel 60%) and group P3 (given black soybean extract gel 80%). Each group was given treatments twice a day in the wound area. It was observed microscopically by hematoxylin-eosin staining to count the number of neutrophils and macrophages as well as immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining to observe TGF-β expression on days three and seven. Results: The rats treated with black soybean extract gel had significantly lower numbers of neutrophils and macrophages than the non-treated rats after three and seven days of treatment; in addition, the group treated with black soybean extract gel had higher TGF-β expression after three and seven days of administration. Conclusion: Administration of black soybean extract gel affects the reduction of the numbers of neutrophils and macrophages and also the enhancement of TGF-β expression in vivo. © 2025 JDMFS.
