In situ improvement of cohesive soils have usually problem, because of its very low permeability. In 1952 Cassagranda demonstrated successfully in situ improvement of clayey soil by using electrokinetics phenomena. This paper presents the result of electrochemical injection model test for mechanical properties improvement of sandy clay soil. Laboratory experiments have been executed in pilot scale and based on electroosmosis phenomena. In the model test was used sandy clay soil as experiment material, CaC12 Ca(OH)2 and Na2CO3 + Ca(OH)2 as chemical solution, and potential gradient of 1 V/cm. The successful of this method can be evaluated by comparing of mechanical properties of soil before and after test. X-Ray Diffraction test have been carried out to explore new minerals building. The model test showed, that electrochemical grouting with Na2CO 3+ Ca(OH)2 solution generate the best improving shear strength of sandy clay. New mineral of Calcium Magnesium Aluminum Silicate and amorphous are detected on all experiments.
