Abstract

As the important component in wireless systems, the antenna should have the good performances in wireless technology challenge, such as need for wide bandwidth with high data rates. To solve that problem, the Ultra- Wideband (UWB) which is a short range communication system that has a wide bandwidth and categorized as a condition with the fractional bandwidth of ≥ 20% of the center frequency or bandwidth ≥ 500 MHz, should be applied. With the various model of the antenna which is existed, the rugby ball microstrip antenna is designed with a circle slot on the ground plane and inside feed line to get ultra wideband. The design of microstrip antenna using Epoxy FR-4 with dielectric constant (ɛr) = 4.5. Based on simulation and measurement results, the antenna works at frequency 1300–3200 MHz obtained from the return loss level < -9.54 dB, bidirectional, has gain level greater than 0 dB at the worked frequency range and has various polarization obtained from axial ratio level of the antenna. © 2014 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
