Problems are caused by swelling and shrinkage properties of expansive soil will affect the stability of the building and pavement. Some wastes materials are used to reduce the swelling potential and increase strength of expansive soil such as rice husk ash, bagasse ash (BA) etc. BA is a waste material from sugar cane mills are available in large quantities in Indonesia so that utilization should be considered. The addition of BA can decrease swell potential and increase strength but have low soaked CBR. To improve composition of mixed soil (soil+ BA), lime, Portland Cement (PC) and gypsum are used to stabilize the mixture. Combinations of BA with lime / PC / gypsum is expected to provide maximum results for swelling and strength. This study aimed to obtain the optimum percentage of BA and additives lime/ cement/ gypsum. Some experiment such as the consistency, CBR, swelling and free swell test are conducted to obtain the optimum of BA (8%) and lime/ PC/gypsum (6%) of the dry weight of expansive soil. © 2016 ejge.
