Skin aging is a complex process affected by both genetic and environmental factors, and it is caused by the cumulative damage from exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Chronic exposure to UV radiation on human skin further generates solar elastosis, degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and wrinkle formation. UV radiation exposure leads to production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the skin. Chronological & photo-aging occurred via ROS by cascade signaling pathways. Treatment of antioxidants is an effective approach to prevent symptoms related to photo-induced skin aging. In this chapter, the mechanisms of ROS generation in the skin, the roles of ROS in altering the skin and ROS elimination in the body are discussed. © 2018 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
