Reactive oxygen species or ROS is formed in vivo and many of them are considered as strong oxidizing agents, and it's capable in destruction DNA and other biomolecules. Elevated ROS production generates development of malignancy. Moreover, the 'normal' rates of ROS generation may play a role in the increased risk of cancer development. Indeed, the knockout of various antioxidant defense enzymes raises oxidative damage levels and promotes age-related cancer development in animals. Many recent studies have been focusing on direct oxidative damage to DNA by certain ROS, such as hydroxyl radical (OH*). © 2018 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
