This study aims at testing the tolerance of local upland rice (gogo) of Gorontalo toward drought stress and low intensity of light through fast germination stage. The first study is on the stress drought, using completely factorial randomized design with four repetitions. The first factor, 25 varieties of local upland rice (gogo) of Gorontalo and the second factor is the concentration of PEG 6000 by 0%, 5%, 10%, and 20% concentrates. The second research is on the tolerance toward low light intensity using the darkroom to measure a number of living plants on the seventh day after the plant is placed in a dark room. This study shows that the 20% concentrate of PEG solution and the change in length of roots is effective to simulate the drought stress for the group of tolerant, moderate, and sensitive varieties. Some varieties of upland rice that can tolerate dried are Ponda Merah and Sonu varieties. These two varieties have high germination power, maximum growth potential, and long roots and plumula. The varieties that can tolerate the low intensity of lights are Bokungo, Yenti, Ponda Merah and Bulotonu, which are able to grow in a dark room for seven days. © 2017 @ author (s).
