Since corn demand has been increased in all of the world, development of hybrid varietiesto boost up production growth in recently is encouraged in many countries. The use of corn as biofuel raw material may cause supply-demand imbalance. This study was undertaken to determine the combining ability of several inbred lines of yellow corn for grain yield and yield component in order to develop hybrid variety. Seven corn inbred lines were mated using complete diallel crosses and evaluated their combining ability at Jatimulyo research station of Brawijaya University, Malang, Indonesia. Observation was done on some characters in both vegetative and generative phase. Data were analyzed with procedure of Griffing’s method-1 model-1. The results revealed that line E44, line E31 and line Ionby have desirable value of general combining ability effect almost in all of yield component characters, whereas only line Ionby possessed the best general combining ability for hundred seeds weight and grain yield. Crosses of (Ionby x E15), (Ionby x E28) and (E28 x Ionby) accumulated the best specific combining ability for grain yield as well as yield component characters. Reciprocal crosses demonstrated that several crosses combination has significant effect for ear length, ear diameter and hundred seeds weight. Heterosis calculated for High Parent Heterosis in all of crosses showed positive value for yield component characters and grain yield. © 2018 ISISnet: Innovative Scientific Information Services Network.
