The brown alga is widely distributed at many coastal areas in tropical zone such as in Indonesia. It has a potential as an antibacterial and analgesic agent, anti-inflammatory and antitumor properties. Therefore, an evaluation of analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect of Sargassum polycystum on mice model of fed-inflammatory is evaluated. The pain responses on normal and inflammatory mice model after it treated with extract of Sargassum polycystum at particular dose compared to untreated mice (control) is calculated. The analgesic effect was examined based on Writhing and Randall sellito method, and Paw Edema method for determining anti-inflammatory effect. The optimum inhibitory effect (86.67%) of analgesic and anti-inflammatory (48.15%) were sterol fraction (FSS) of Sargassum polycystum at dose 70 mg/kg, FSS fraction has a higher percentage of inhibition than aspirin (standard). The highest fucosterol concentration was obtained in hexane fraction compared to the fraction of chloroform fraction there were 3.89% and 3.64%, respectively. © 2018, Pharmainfo Publications.
