Abstract

Time of concentration is an important parameter in the design of drainage. That is time needed for the water flowing from the further point to the end of stream in the catchment area. The time of water flow is depending on the velocity to reach the peak discharge, there are many factors that influence. The urban drainage concept is following the water balance concept, the rainfall is equal to the runoff and infiltration. Time of concentration is depending on the rainfall volume, land use and the covering, type of soil, maintenance of channel and land slope. The time of concentration can be classified for the use in the channel of drainage, overland flow and pipe. The overflow is influenced by infiltration rate, pipe flow is influenced by the energy losses that caused by water viscosity and pipe installation. Time of concentration is the parameter needed for the discharge design of drainage. This research has been resulted in the suitable formula to calculate time of concentration in accordance with the characteristic of the area. © Proceeding of the 21st LAHR-APD Congress 2018.
