Sea cucumber extract has potential health benefits including antitumor and use in the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. The purpose of the present study was to investigate cytotoxic activity of sea cucumber extract on human breast cancer cell line T47D. This study used WST-assay to analyze cytotoxicity of sea cucumber using two types of extraction, water extraction and methanol extraction. The treatment concentrations in this study were control, 50 μg/mL, 100 μg/mL, 250 μg/mL and 500 μg/mL. The results showed that sea cucumber extracts have potential to inhibit growth of the T47D cell line, with optimum concentration of water extraction at 480 μg/mL and 145 μg/mL for methanol extraction. So it can be concluded that extract of sea cucumber (Bohadschia argus) has potential as an anticancer therapy as it inhibits growth of T47D cells. © 2018 Author(s).
