Establishment of an efficient feed formulation is very important to do because it can affect the growth and performance of the poultry. This process is done by fulfilling the nutrient needs of each poultry and minimizing total cost of feedstuffs used. Simulated Annealing as one of the heuristic methods is offered to resolve the problem of poultry feed formulation. The proposed mutation operators are used to create neighbor solutions in Simulated Annealing. This process is performed by changing a value in the solution by using one of three mutation operator schemes at each iteration according to their probabilities. The first scheme uses a small random value to change the value of the current solution, the second scheme uses a value which is the difference of two randomly selected values at a certain interval to change the value of the current solution, and the third scheme changes the value of the best solution by a value which is the difference of two randomly selected values at a certain interval. The use of the proposed mutation operator schemes to create a neighbor solution can improve the solution provided. The research results prove that with a little additional computational time, improved Simulated Annealing is able to provide better results with higher energy than conventional Simulated Annealing. © 2018 IEEE.
