DC-DC converter plays an important role in the distribution of electricity in some applications. The most common type of DC-DC converter is buck converter. Failure in any components of buck converter can cause the performance of this equipment being degraded or even be fatal in some applications. The cause of failure is often encountered in the passive components. The aging and heating effect on passive components can cause changes in parameter values or even malfunctions. Therefore, an estimator is required to estimate the value of passive component parameters in real time, accurate, stable, fast, and convergent to their actual values. In this paper, Lyapunov based estimator is designed and implemented for buck converter. The proposed estimator structure is of two types, namely series estimator and series parallel estimator. According to analytical and theoretical discussion, both estimators are stable and generate minimal errors. Based on numerical simulation results, it is found that the estimation results of both estimators are able to converge to their actual values and able to accurately follow every abrupt parameter changes. © 2018 IEEE.
