Abstract

The coastal city of the region characterized by land and water is one of the climate controls that can affect climate elements in the region. This study aims to study the physical characteristics of coastal cities to assess the distribution of carbon monoxide (CO). This research was conducted in Makassar, namely three city area locations that were selected as observation units to be studied, each area having an area of 100 m. To support this research, measurements of carbon monoxide, air temperature, wind speed and air humidity have been measured both in the rainy and dry seasons. Measurements are made five times from morning to evening when the weather is sunny at the same time. The physical characteristics of the city studied included: building mass, environmental density, building materials, land cover materials, and landscapes. The analysis was carried out statistically. Carbon monoxide distribution is mapped using the envi-met V.3.1 software. The results of the analysis show that the physical characteristics of coastal cities have a significant effect on the spread of CO. ©IAEME Publication
