This study investigated the quality of nine unproductive farm ponds as silvofishery culture. The physical–chemical indicators on culture pond was applied as a basis to understand its biological productivity and how these indicators influenced the chemical activity process of living organisms on pond. The methods used were Water Quality Index (WQI), Soil Quality Index (SQI), carrying capacity, and pond potential estimation. Carrying capacity was calculated using the silvofishery model 60:40 % (mangrove:culture) proportionally and Dissolved Oxygen (DO) availability approach. Moreover, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied to interpret the large water and soil parameters during a 2-month observation and characterization. The results of the findings proposed a novel modification of WQI and SQI values which were clustered into four classes. Also, the result from PCA loadings implied that chemical factors dominated. Specifically, among nine ponds, only the first and fourth ponds showed a higher DO availability than DO necessity on pond. Moreover, pond potential was estimated by chlorophyll-α approach and had a value of 0.187-2.924-ton range for herbivore, while the value for carnivore was around 0.019-0.292 ton. Finally, the findings of the present study recommend Komplangan design as a silvofishery model. Silvofishery model can be used to ameliorate water and soil quality of pond and increase aquaculture production. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.
