Abstract

The Kartoharjo District represents a pivotal agricultural zone within Magetan Regency, recognized as the granary for the region's rice production. This essential function establishes Kartoharjo as a critical buffer for the local food security paradigm. Nevertheless, in recent years, the region has encountered considerable pressures manifested in the transformation of food crop land into non-Agricultural territories. A predominant factor propelling this transition is the advancement of infrastructure, particularly the proliferation of road networks, which incites the conversion of land for non-Agricultural applications such as residential developments and various public amenities. This research endeavor seeks to delineate the spatial distribution and quantify the extent of land conversion pertaining to food crops within the Kartoharjo District over the preceding three years. The methodology employed is quantitative, utilizing spatial analysis facilitated by ArcGIS software, and is further substantiated by pertinent literature reviews. The empirical findings demonstrate that there has been a transformation of 3,079 hectares from an overall expanse of 1,885,898 hectares allocated for food crops, which corresponds to a reduction of approximately 0.163%. These results underscore a concerning trend in land conversion that necessitates vigilant oversight, as it poses a potential risk to the sustainability of food security. Consequently, it is imperative that policy measures be enacted through the regulation of spatial utilization and the safeguarding of agricultural land by local governmental entities to ensure the enduring functionality of land and the advancement of regional development in a sustainable framework. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
