Brotowali plants (Tinospora crispa) have the ability to reduce the parasitemia level, while earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus) possess anti-inflammatory and anti-ischemic mechanism. This study was aimed to assess the combined effect of brotowali extract and on erythrocytes and colon of Balb/C mice infected with Plasmodium berghei. Mice were divided into five groups and treatments were administered orally for seven days after parasitemia level had reached ± 10%. Erythrocyte count was analyzed by a one-way ANOVA test (p<0.05) and the Tukey test was carried out subsequently. Histopathology of the colon was analyzed descriptively. The combination of brotowali extract and earthworm was able to increase erythrocytes by 7.27 x 106/ìL from a positive control value of 5.63 x 106/ìL and repair colon damage in the form of reduced inflammation, congestion, mucosal erosion, and submucosal necrosis. This study confirms that brotowali and earthworm treatment can effectively increase the number of erythrocytes, reduce parasitemia degree, and repair damaged colon tissue. © 2020, Veterinary Practitioner.
