Abstract

The porang plant (Amorphophallus muelleri) has high economic value because the productivity of porang tubers produced in the area can penetrate the export market. Regions with extensive porang land and high productivity potential still have porang productivity that contributes significantly to regional economic growth. This study aims to determine the impact of the porang commodity on the economy and identify potential areas for increasing productivity. This study employs a quantitative approach, utilizing multiple linear regression analysis and Geo-map analysis with the Orange Data Mining tool. The results show that porang harvests and porang export value have a significant positive impact on the Regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In contrast, porang prices have a considerable influence on GDP, but this relationship is negative. This suggests potential issues in the value chain, including price volatility and low added value at the upstream level. Geo-map analysis also identifies Wonoasri and Kare Regencies as the largest porang production centers, which cover 78% of the total porang plantation area in Madiun Regency. Porang production experienced a significant increase during the 2018-2022 period, despite a relatively stable land area, indicating that porang is a potential commodity for strengthening the local economy. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
